INFRAESTRUTURA: ANÁLISE SOCIOESPACIAL DO PARQUE INDUSTRIAL DO ESTADO DE RORAIMA

Abstract

This article addresses the theme of the Industrial Park of Roraima, in order to analyze the socio-spatial development of the Industrial District of Boa Vista-RR. The First Industrial Revolution occurred in the late 17th and early 18th centuries in the United Kingdom, characterizing what is called classical industrialization. During this period, Brazil was going through the colonization process and its metropolis Portugal adopted a prohibition policy that denied any type of commercial and industrial activity in the Brazilian territory, fearing that Brazil would become independent or develop an internal trade. These measures contributed to the cause of nearly two centuries of delay in the Brazilian industrial process that only started its first industrial activities in the middle of the 19th century. Accompanying this development dynamic, in the North of Brazil it was no different, while the Southeast of the country dazzled its industries fueled by the economy, the North and Northeast regions suffered from the isolation and lack of investment performed by a government policy that centralized the entire economy and production in the country's major metropolises. In view of this scenario, the present article traces an analysis that goes through the historical process of expansion of industry in Brazil and the North region, contextualizing public policies and development programs that had made possible the expansion and decentralization of Brazilian industry. The research reflects on the industrialization process in the State of Roraima, discussing the spatial production of the Industrial District and the development of the local economy. The methodology is based on a descriptive literature review, using the theoretical-empirical analysis method. In view of the analysis, it is clear that several factors contributed to the formation of the Industrial District in the region, such as the implementation of the Manaus Free Trade Zone, and that the State has sought to legalize and organize its industrial space during this process.
