A “NOVA POLÍTICA” DO CORONAVÍRUS: A FRANÇA DE EMMANUEL MACRON SE REINVENTA EM MEIO À EPIDEMIA

Abstract
This article presents a case study (the global coronavirus epidemic) in order to analyzing ongoing changes at domestic politics and foreign relations in France during the presidential mandate of Emmanuel Macron. It portrays a qualitative analysis informed by a bibliographic revision of the aforementioned topics. Macron stressed the need for a “new beginning” of life in post-pandemic France. This concept, however, can be applied specifically to his government. Coronavirus was mobilized by the Macron administration in order to “reboot” contested reforms against the background of demobilization of protests at public spaces during lockdown. Additionally, fighting the disease allowed anticipating future damages associated with Brexit in the context of an already decelerating economy. In spite of not being in charge of structural transformations in economic relations between France and Europe, the Macron administration managed to turn a catastrophic event into an opportunity for re-launching its political platform.
