SUBNATIONAL PARADIPLOMACY: THE SCIENTIFIC CONSTRUCTION OF RESEARCH IN PORTUGUESE LANGUAGE (1990-2020)

Abstract
Subnational paradiplomacy is a conceptual framework of increasing relevance in humanistic, geographic and applied social science studies that defines international action engendered actively or reactively by non-central governmental actors. Taking subnational paradiplomacy as an object of study, the purpose of this chapter is to analyze the epistemological construction of the field of studies on subnational paradiplomacy in Portuguese through the use of a methodological guide for an integrative review of publications and authors in Portuguese. Based on the results obtained in the study, it has been concluded that the scientific field of subnational paradiplomacy in Portuguese has evolved rapidly due to the researches of Brazilian professionals as well as a pattern determined by three characteristic phases but with continuous volatility of outputs, demonstrating that there is still room for present growth despite certain vices and a selective agenda guided by certain biases and trends.
