Abstract

With the hope of finding solutions to contemporary environmental problems, eco-innovation (EI) is characterized by the incorporation of continuous improvements in technical, managerial and organizational processes that relate to the relationship between companies and the environment. The objective of this article was to establish an overview of the adoption of eco-innovations in Brazilian companies in the manufacturing industry, identifying their characteristics and their main determinants. The descriptive analysis corresponded to the years 2008 to 2017 of the innovation survey, being used, the probit model for the analysis of the determinants, only for the year 2017. The results of the models followed similar, and the general model presented a significant result for regulations and standards, thus, companies that are considered as standards and regulations are more likely to adopt EI. As for the impacts of innovation, it can be suggested that the adoption of EI is related to the intention of companies to improve their productive capacity and the quality of their products. Within the scope of innovative activities, the acquisition of software and the implementation of internal R&D activities were also developed, thus, it is possible to infer that companies that relate better to innovative activities are more likely to adopt EI.
