PARTICIPATORY CERTIFICATION SYSTEMS: SOCIAL INNOVATION, ECO-INNOVATION OR DETERRITORIALIZATION?

Abstract
In order to discuss the Participatory Certification Systems (SPC in Portuguese) as a factor of social innovation and eco-innovation, understanding bureaucratic limitations and proposing alternative processes of certification, whose fabric operates in relations regarding territorialities, knowledges and practices at stake in the configuration of discourses, the essay presents an analysis of the structure of territorial governance and networks in the context of agroecological certifications, notably with concern to the participation of farmers in the process of social control. Within the scope of discussions, topics such as agroecology, social organization, territorial governance and agroecological certifications are articulated, allowing to promote, eventually, the safeguard of biocultural heritage and, at the same time, as an instrument of social innovation and eco-innovation. The contemporaneity of the subject comes from the social control as a political and collective process, which respects territorialities and, at the same, in a virtuous circle, provides the necessary guarantee to corroborate the legality, traceability and transparency of the products offered and certified as being, in fact, arisen on an agroecological basis.
