THE COUNTER-NARRATIVE IN THE THOUGHT OF DARCY RIBEIRO, FERREIRA GULLAR AND RAUL ELLWANGLER

Abstract

This article addresses the escape of Brazilian intellectuals to Chile during the military dictatorship in Brazil. Salvador Allende's government in Chile, from 1970 to 1973, implemented the political program established by the Popular Unity movement and defended democracy and the autonomy of the people. During this period, Brazil was under military rule, with Ernesto Garrastazu Médici as president, and the elements opposing the regime were gradually silenced. Some remained in the country, but others sought protection abroad. The objective of this work is to identify some intellectuals who migrated to Chile due to Brazil's political designs and to understand the welcome they received from the Chilean government. The research is qualitative and uses historical documentary analysis as its methodology. Among the sources used, we highlight the use of diplomatic documents, political speeches, literary works and bibliographic research of scientific articles in specialized journals. The reference is the theory of social discourse, since intellectuals, based on their historical and social context and mainly on their place of speech, constructed their works and narratives. The historical documentary survey allows us to analyze the ideology of the Allende government in Chile and the reception of Brazilian intellectuals who sought exile. Based on the analysis of the literary production of Darcy Ribeiro, Ferreira Gullar and Raul Ellwangler, we highlight the importance of the place of speech, ideology and action undertaken through writing. The result of the research allows us to conclude that the Government of Popular Unity in Chile was important for welcoming Brazilian intellectuals during the military period and allowing their voices to reverberate in political resistance against the dictatorship.
