Abstract

The Venezuelan diaspora has been characterized as one of the largest flows of human displacement from an international perspective in the first quarter of the 21st century, which is why its analysis becomes relevant for the asymmetric understanding of its impacts and repercussions on public policies in a concentrated set of destination territories. Taking for granted this issue in which updated data from the United Nations indicate that almost 25% of the Venezuelan population has emigrated to other countries, the book “Migração Venezuelana no Brasil e em Roraima” addresses the Venezuelan migratory boom to Brazil as one of the main destinations, highlighting the cross-border context of the state of Roraima, which has become the main gateway for human displacement. Based on a deductive method and an eclectic theoretical-methodological paradigm, this book presents, among its results and discussions, an intriguing agenda of studies on the reality of migrants and the personal and institutional challenges faced in Brazil and in Roraima, especially in the capital, Boa Vista. It is concluded that the book provides an enriching understanding of the fields of power that have been materialized through Venezuelan migration, but which have received little institutional critical mass from the public authorities vis-à-vis the challenges and implications that exist in the short and medium term.
