ATTITUDES TOWARDS POLITICIANS: CONSTRUCTION AND ANALYSIS OF PSYCHOMETRIC PARAMETERS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The article aimed to build an instrument with good psychometric characteristics to measure attitudes toward politics. To achieve this purpose, the research was divided into two stages. The first aimed to build an instrument that measured attitudes toward politicians, in addition to knowing the factorial structure of the items. 325 participants participated, over 18 years old, with a mean age of 27.61 (SD = 10.55). However, the second gathered efforts to confirm the dimensionality found previously. In this, there were 352 participants from the general population (M = 27.60; SD = 10.53). The subjects responded to the Attitudes Toward Politicians Scale (EAFP) and a Sociodemographic Questionnaire. Data analyses were performed using IBM SPSS software (version 25); Factor 12.04.04 and Jasp 0.15. The first one helped in carrying out descriptive analyses. The second allowed the Exploratory Factor Analysis to be carried out, which indicated the existence of three factors, with good adjustment indicators (χ²/gl = 2.80; RMSEA = 0.074; CFI = 0.976; TLI = 0.929), and with Composite Reliability above 0.70 for all factors. The Confirmatory Factor Analysis, carried out by the third party, corroborated the three-factor structure of the EAFP, presenting adjustment indicators that supported the model, namely: χ²/gl = 2.61; CFI = 0.98; TLI = 0.98; RMSEA (90%CI) = 0.03 (0.01 – 0.06). And Composite Reliability above 0.60. Given the results, it is believed that the main objective was achieved since the EAFP presented satisfactory validity and precision indicators, which can be used in future studies to measure attitudes toward politicians.
