DIDACTIC-PEDAGOGICAL GUIDELINES FOR TEACHING GEOMETRY IN THE FIRST TWO YEARS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE CONTEXT OF THE BNCC

Abstract

This text was organized based on a study of the National Common Core Curriculum (BNCC), with the aim of understanding "what" and "how" Geometry should be taught in the first two years of elementary school in order to develop competences and skills relating to the objects of knowledge of this subject. It is therefore a scientific essay of an exploratory, descriptive and explanatory nature, of a bibliographical nature, whose object of analysis was the documentary framework, which, among others, includes official educational documents. According to the BNCC, a document that defines the essential learning to be guaranteed to all students in Basic Education and which guides the development of curricula and pedagogical proposals for this level of education, Geometry in the early years of schooling aims to develop geometric thinking, which is fundamental for analyzing properties and making conjectures. The study concluded that geometry stimulates the development of mathematical reasoning and, consequently, geometric reasoning. Therefore, in the first two years of elementary school, work should be done with situations related to shape, dimension and direction, as the aim of this subject at this level of education is consistent with working with location, recognizing figures, manipulating geometric shapes, spatial representation and establishing properties.
