Abstract

The objective of this text is to describe and analyze the "Sabido Method," developed by Mexican researcher Miguel Sabido, which proposes the theoretical and conceptual foundations of a methodology for the commercial production of telenovelas (soap-operas) with educational purposes and proven social benefits, which guided the conception and development of the field of Entertainment-Education (E-E). Based on bibliographic research, the historical origin and evolution of the "Sabido Method" are described and discussed, as well as the concept and studies on E-E, which still today prove to be effective tools for changing audience behavior with social and/or educational objectives and in assisting the development of public policies such as family planning, youth and adult literacy, female empowerment, and health-related topics such as AIDS, STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases), obesity, notably in poor and underdeveloped countries. This text concludes that studies on the subject are expanding and finding opportunities through new digital and transmedia formats, but there are challenges, from which fundamental questions are proposed to consider the future of research and products based on E-E.
