RELIGIOSITY, LEISURE, AND PERIPHERY: TRAINING CULTURAL PRACTICES OR POWER RELATIONS?

Abstract

The main objective was to analyze how the process of articulation between leisure and religion occurs in the community Pedreira Prado Lopes (PPL) MG, located in the city of Belo Horizonte - MG, from the Project "Amar os Irmãos", developed in partnership with the Church of Salvation.   For this, we used the technique of Participant Observation, as it represents a research strategy that presents methodological contributions sensitive to the meanings and values constituted in the experiences of the observed territories, in order to understand the religious practices in conjunction with the dimension of leisure. For the construction of the partial information described in the body of this study, a semi-structured interview became evident as the technique chosen to compose the analyzed contents, as well as to document the undocumented.  The results analyzed so far indicate that there is a great lack of leisure activities provided by the city of Belo Horizonte for the region of PPL. We conclude that there is no articulation between the researched group and the government, due to the distance between these two social spheres. Given this configuration, the leisure activities experienced by the group studied were linked to the church or the community itself.
