SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES IN THE BEEF SUPPLY CHAIN: AN ANALYSIS OF SUSTAINABILITY REPORTS FROM SLAUGHTERHOUSES IN GOIÁS

Main Article Content

Abstract

Sustainability in the beef production chain has become a crucial factor for business competitiveness, driven by global environmental and social demands. This study aims to analyze the adoption of sustainable practices by slaughterhouses in Goiás, assessing their adherence to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria. A qualitative approach with an exploratory and descriptive design was employed. Data collection was conducted through documentary analysis of sustainability reports published in 2023, based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework and the ABNT PR 2030 standard. The data were categorized according to the three ESG pillars and analyzed using triangulation with academic references and international regulations. The results indicate that large slaughterhouses demonstrate greater maturity in managing emissions, traceability, and the use of clean energy, whereas smaller companies face structural challenges in implementing robust environmental and social practices. Corporate governance emerged as a determining factor, being more consolidated in companies that adopt advanced compliance and transparency policies. The study concludes that despite progress, significant challenges remain, particularly in the traceability of indirect suppliers, waste management, and social equity. This research contributes by highlighting gaps and opportunities for improving sustainability in the sector, emphasizing the need for policies and incentives that expand the adoption of these practices throughout the production chain.
