Abstract

AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a condition of viral etiology caused by HIV, which compromises the individual's immune system. The objective of this study is to outline the profile of hospitalizations for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome in a reference hospital managed by Empresa Brasileira e Serviços Hospitalares. An exploratory, transversal and retrospective approach was used, employing a quantitative and qualitative analysis. Data were collected from secondary sources, specifically DATASUS, which offers information on the profile of hospitalizations for Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome in a reference hospital in the state of Paraíba. During the prevalence calculation, it was observed that the prevalence of hospitalizations due to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome corresponds to 33% of cases, highlighting the importance of prevention strategies, mass testing and intensification of policies to combat and prevent the disease. It is worth noting that despite advances, the disease represents an important challenge to Public Health, corresponding to a high morbidity and mortality rate in the country. AIDS represents one of the main causes of hospitalization for Notifiable Diseases, even with prevention strategies as well as campaign campaigns and early diagnosis suggesting intensification of these as well as greater coordination in the Health Care Network.
