CHILD HEALTH CARE IN THE EXPERIENCE OF FAMILIES IN THE MIGRATION PROCESS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The complex and multifaceted reality of the migration process reveals many challenges that impact the lives and health of families, especially the children who are vulnerable. This study aimed to understand the experiences of international migrant families to promote the health of their children and prevent health issues. It is an exploratory research with a qualitative approach, grounded in the concept of Vulnerability. In-depth interviews were conducted with 15 international migrant families between May and December 2022. For data analysis, the Interpretation of Meanings method was used, identifying three different categories of analysis: Demands and Facilitators in the Health Care of Migrant Children; Contrasts in Health Care for Children: Opportunities and Fragilities in Accessing Health Services in Brazil Compared to Countries of Origin; and Presence of Cultural Elements in the Practice of Health Care for Children. It was found that the coverage of health services in Brazil is adequate, as is the welcoming and humanization of care for migrant children. However, issues such as delays in service, differences faced as foreigners, impatience in understanding the language, lack of trust, and receptiveness were present in the care provided to this population. Therefore, it is concluded that it is essential to implement policies and opportunities that address the cultural particularities and specific needs of this population, especially during the process of adapting to a new country.
