FEASIBILITY OF COMMUNITY TREATMENT IN LATIN AMERICA: INNOVATIVE PERSPECTIVES FOR THE CARE OF PEOPLE IN SOCIAL SUFFERING

Abstract
Community Treatment is an innovative methodology that has been implemented with communities in various Latin American countries, aiming to integrate people in situations of social vulnerability. The objective of this work was to investigate the feasibility of implementing Community Treatment in Latin America based on the experience of professionals responsible for applying the methodology in eleven countries. This is a qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews with 20 professionals who worked on Community Treatment in the eleven countries. The reports were recorded and transcribed, translated when necessary, and submitted to content analysis, following six feasibility criteria: acceptability, demand, implementation, adaptation, integration, and expansion. The interviewees identified a demand for Community Treatment in different countries, with good acceptance by professionals and the target population. The implementation varied according to the peculiarities of each territory or country. The approach, which values the perspective of active community participation, horizontalization, and networking, was considered a central element for feasibility. Adaptations were suggested to simplify the implementation. Community Treatment was perceived as a viable intervention by interviewees from the eleven countries, and it can be an important reference for policies directed at populations in social vulnerability in Latin America.
