INVENTORY OF FLOURISHING AT WORK: CONSTRUCTION AND EVIDENCE OF VALIDITY IN SAMPLES OF BRAZILIAN WORKERS
Main Article Content
Abstract
Recent changes in the world of work, such as the invasion of work demands in leisure time through technological advances, smartphones and other resources, have made it difficult for people to disconnect from work. These changes have led to increased stress and illness among workers. In the quest to understand factors that provide health and well-being for workers, we have sought to apply the concept of flourishing from Positive Psychology to the work context. Flourishing is an optimal state of well-being, with the presence of positive emotions, flow, positive social relationships, meaning and achievement. In order to contribute to the development of research on the subject as well as organizational diagnoses and institutional action plans, this article aims to describe the construction of a flourishing at work inventory (FWI). The inventory was developed using the PERMA model and the empirically tested version consisted of 57 items. To assess the validity and reliability of the measure, the FWI was applied using an online form to two samples of 454 and 961 workers from public and private Brazilian organizations. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and internal consistency analysis were used to analyze the data. The results pointed to a bifactor empirical solution, with one general factor and five specific factors, all with good internal consistency indices. It was possible to demonstrate the coherence of the FWI with the theoretical model of flowering and to provide the scientific community and institutions with an instrument for measuring flowering.
