THE USE OF QUATERNARY PREVENTION IN SITUATIONS OF OBSTETRIC VIOLENCE: BASIC PRINCIPLES

Abstract
This study focuses on obstetric violence and the application of quaternary prevention as a strategy to mitigate its occurrence in health services. The aim of this work is to highlight quaternary prevention as a tool that aims to minimize or extinguish the problems resulting from obstetric violence. The research, carried out through an integrative literature review between July and November 2023, used the PubMed databases via MEDLINE, the CAPES journals portal with CAFe access and the BVS data source. The descriptors "Violence", "Obstetrics" and "Prevention", validated by DeCS/MeSH, were connected using the Boolean operator "AND". The analysis resulted in an initial sample of 340 articles, 09 of which were carefully selected after evaluating the abstracts and reading them in full. It was revealed that inadequate care for women plays a significant role in maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. Estimates from the World Health Organization indicate that around 295,000 women die every year due to complications related to motherhood. Promoting the humanization of care is essential, with an emphasis on good practices during prenatal care, labour and the puerperium. The care for women should emphasize autonomy, respect for rights, empathetic support, encouraging the use of non-invasive methods for pain relief, freedom of position and the adoption of practices based on scientific evidence, highlighting the importance of continuous professional updating.
