WONG AND LAW EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE SCALE (WLEIS): PSYCHOMETRIC EVIDENCE IN BRAZIL
Main Article Content
Abstract
Emotional Intelligence refers to a set of intrapersonal skills that enable individuals to control their own emotions and understand the emotions of others in a positive way. The study aimed to adapt, gathering evidence from the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) in the Brazilian context. An accidental, non-probabilistic sample was used, consisting of 225 university students (Age = 20.52; ranging from 18 to 34 years old), the majority of whom were female (61.3%). The WLEIS was applied in addition to sociodemographic questions. Through Exploratory Factor Analysis, using varimax rotation, which made it possible to identify four (IE) factors: Assessment of one of the emotions, Assessment of the emotions of others, Use of emotions and Regulation of emotions. Reliability (Chonbach's alpha) ranged from 0.81 to 0.89, being considered meritorious. Therefore, it is concluded that the WLEIS presents itself as an instrument with good psychometric parameters and could be useful for measuring emotional intelligence and its correlates in future studies.
