Abstract

The main theme of this article is vascular changes in patients with sepsis. The aim of this study is to highlight the development of cardiovascular complications in patients with sepsis. An integrative literature review was carried out from June to October 2023, using the PubMed database via MEDLINE and the CAPES journals portal, with access via CAFe. The descriptors, validated by DeCS/MeSH, namely "Vascular Diseases", “Clinical Epidemiology” and "Sepsis", were used in the search. Filters were applied to complete and available articles, favoring documents classified as scientific articles and published between 2017 and 2023, with no language restrictions. The research sample comprised a total of 70 articles, 11 of which were carefully selected after analyzing the abstracts. Sepsis and its consequences have emerged as the leading cause of mortality among critically ill patients. There is a consensus that sepsis is a continuous syndrome that encompasses various pathological processes, such as systemic inflammation, coagulopathy and systemic vascular disorders. The occurrence of failure in one or more organs represents a significant threat to patient survival, and sepsis-related mortality is often associated with multiple organ dysfunction. In conclusion, this comprehensive analysis of cardiovascular alterations in patients with sepsis highlights the complexity of these issues and emphasizes the imperative need for clinical interventions focused on the prevention and management of these complications.
