LIFELONG LEARNING: ANALYSIS OF THE PERCEPTION OF STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CREATIVE AGE

Abstract

A significant increase in people's life expectancy has been observed. In the context of population ageing, lifelong learning promotes cognitive stimulation, emotional well-being, healthy ageing and social integration. Universidade da Criativa Idade is an extension project that promotes lifelong learning for older people since 2015. The objective of this study is to analyze the perception of the students of the University of Creative Age in relation to lifelong learning. To this end, a survey was conducted with 27 students enrolled in the project in 2022. The data collection instrument considered the evaluation of aspects such as time of participation in the project, contents, teaching strategies, experiences, relationships. From the results, strengths, neutrals and weaknesses were identified and improvement actions for the project were suggested. The research reveals that program participants experienced cognitive improvements, preservation of mental health and reduced risk of age-related cognitive decline. The program promoted active and healthy ageing by stimulating older adults' autonomy and adaptive capacity. In addition, participants broadened their social networks by interacting with people of different ages, which contributed to an inclusive and rewarding experience.
